Re: SB 329 (Food & Beverage/Family Meals Tax)
Date: March 24, 2005When HB
1299 died along with 131 other bills on the last night for action on
House bills we hoped that would be the end of this year's effort to
pass new food and beverage/family meals taxes. Unfortunately the
proposed new taxes for Avon, Martinsville, Monroe County and Wayne
County have been amended into SB 329 and passed out of the Ways and
Means Committee by a vote of 17-4.
I want to thank four freshmen
legislators for voting against this proposal and ask you to join me
in thanking Rep. Bill Davis, Rep. Billy Bright, Rep. John Smith, and
Rep. Troy Woodruff.
If this legislation is enacted it will be the first new family meals
tax in ten years and undoubtedly will lead to additional cities and
counties being added in future years. Before this damn breaks we
need to flood the House of Representatives with phone calls and
emails asking each member to vote against SB 329 when it is eligible
to be heard next week.
Please act today. For additional information on this issue and how
to contact your legislator go to
www.capwiz.com/la.
You can also contact your legislator by calling the House of
Representatives at 1-800-232-9600 and asking for their assistance in
determining the name of your State Representative.
I am asking you to be a grassroots leader and to recruit others to
voice their opposition to Senate Bill 329 as soon as possible. We
need for each legislator to get multiple contacts from their
district to stop this unfair, regressive, and discriminatory
proposal. Ask your employees, friends, customers, and other
restaurateurs in your community to get involved.
We only have a few days to get this job done. Please do everything
you can to generate as many contacts as possible. Thank you.
